The Silly Beggar Woman

The Silly Beggar Woman
I sat outside your house every night for year and a half...
With my hands full of gold and silver.
I said please take this gold,
Please have some silver, it’s your if you want it.
My hands full of gold,
My hands full of silver.
My heart full of love.
My being full of nectar.
Please sir, take some silver,
But at the least take some nectar.
You always took, a sip of the nectar.
You never passed up on the sweet nectar.
Leaving you drunk and happy.
I like a fool was happy to share my nectar with you.
But my hands full of silver, my hands full of gold.
My heart full of gold.
You couldn’t be bothered.
I sat there begging you to take my richest treasures.
My hands full of gold, my hands full of silver.
My heart full of love.
I begged you like a fool to take things you didn’t deserve.
My nectar sweeter than honey, you always took.
You didn’t deserve that either.
I begged you to take gold you didn’t deserve.
I begged you to adorn yourself in silver that you’d tarnish.
It’s ironic because I begg…

Love Yourz

Love Yourz (Be GRATEFUL) By: Honey B. Baker
I have been a fan of J Cole’s music since one of his “cousins” who I went to A&T with put me onto his music during the fall semester of 2009. I liked his music because I could really relate to it. I could relate to being a college student, I could relate to coming from a small NC town, I could just flat out relate. J Cole’s music has grown with me and his music has always had some kind of impact on me because it spoke to issues I can wholeheartedly relate on. There is always at least two songs on any of his projects that make me cry and make the hairs on my arm stand on end.
However, on his last album 2014 Forest Hill Drive he probably gave me my life’s masterpiece “Love Yourz”The overarching message of the song is that we need to be grateful because there truly is no such thing as a life that is better than ours.  On the chorus Cole repeats the phrase, there is no such thing as a life that’s better than yours, over and over aga…

This is probably the hardest thing for me to ever write. I have never openly or honestly talked about the death of my father. However, too much blood was shed before his and so much blood has been shed since his.

Amadou Diallo. Sean Bell. Eric Garner. Michael Brown. Tamir Rice. Oscar Grant. Rekia Boyd. Freddie Gray. Walter Scott. And now, Alton Sterling.

Why I'm Thankful For Rejection

Why I’m Thankful For Rejection By: Honey B. Baker
Last year a friend of mine gave me this book called “Mindset: The New Psychology of Success” by Dr. Carol S. Dweck. I have been super busy with life and I didn’t get a chance to read it until very recently. Basically the book breaks down our mindset into two types, fixed versus growth. People with fixed mindsets are doomed for failure after failure. Because when someone has a fixed mindset they have a static way of thinking and do not have the ability to be fluid and adapt to changing stimuli. People with this kind of mindset equate failing with them being an actual failure. They don’t cope well with not doing well and they take any rejection or any kind of failure personally as if it’s a reflection on them personally as if it’s a reflection on their abilities, on their character.

To The One Who Never Loved Me

To The one Who Never Loved Me. To the one who could never leave be. To the one who with me a future he could never see. To the one that our story played out like a bad movie plot. To the one who somehow was there but at the same time was not. To the one who still leaves my stomach in a knot. To the one who is a master of the games of the mind. To the one who is in an instant can be so cruel but then so kind. To the one who was right in front of me but I still couldn’t find. To the one who fooled me into thinking love was real. To the one who coerced me into following what I feel. To the one who I thought possessed what I needed to heal. To the one who I forgave time and time again. To the one who my heart I should've never let in. To the one who I said is better off as a friend. To the one who I never wanted to see our story come to an end. To the one who showed me the depths of the deceit. To the one who had me playing X Factor on repeat. To the one who with just a mere kiss could knock me off m…
